Research Interests:

My thesis work involves examining the impact of smoking on mRNA and microRNA expression in extrathoracic and intrathoracic airway epithelium. The first aim of my research is to define relationships in gene expression in extrathoracic (buccal and nasal) and intrathoracic (bronchial) airway epithelial cells at baseline and in response to cigarette smoke. The next component of my work involves profiling microRNA expression in bronchial epithelium in the setting of tobacco exposure, and correlating microRNA and mRNA expression from the same samples to determine potential regulatory relationships which could then be further explored ''in vitro''.
